Is it ok to eat instant brown rice? I cant cook regular rice to save my life. I have tried every type of rice and every way to cook it. It always comes out mushy and wet. The instant comes out perfect and done in ten minutes.
What do you mean by "instant"??? I'm curious now! I just use a rice cooker...cook it with veggie broth instead of water for more flavour and it's delish...but "instant" does sound easy!
Sounds like you need a rice cooker, makes it perfect every time. Also sounds like you are either not cooking it long enough or adding too much water. Instant rice is actually par-cooked which means that it is partially cooked and takes 15 to 20 minutes insead of 30 in a rice cooker, depending on the brand (don't know anything about brands) it may include some preservatives or other chemical treatments in the processing.
We use a pressure cooker and cook for 15-20 minutes. Short grain brown rice is the best. Then you can also use the pressure cooker for other meals . . . especially delicious Indian meals!
One answer here. Rice cooker. I know it's been said already but I can't stress this enough. The instant rice is not the same. Rice cookers are wonderful and you can never go wrong!! They are pretty affordable too. I keep mine right on the countertop because I use it almost every single day! :)
Dani - I call it instant but it is quick rice and takes about 10 - 15 minutes to cook and comes out great. But I was not sure if it has the same nutritional value. And by the way how much veggie broth do you use with how much rice? Id like to try it.
I do a 2:1 ratio...2 cups broth to one cup uncooked rice, throw it in my rice cooker (best $13 I ever spent!) and turn it on! It clicks when it's done and that's all I have to do!
