Veganism and clear skin

^ Yeah b/c I had a teenage acne phase and I'm too old for it to be as persistent as it is. Since the teen years I've had a few breakouts, but nothing after becoming vegan. This has got to be detox. If that's truly the case, I'm happy to be detoxing.
Now that I think about it, I remember when a vegan came over once when I was about 11 yrs old. She was friends w/ my mom. I think she had just begun to be vegan at that time (1995) b/c I last spoke to her two years ago, she'd said she became vegan 14 yrs ago. So she's been one for 16 yrs now. I'm now 26 and I have seen her lately, her face is clear. However when I was 11 she had memorable breakouts around the eyes.
I'm no doctor but I think when the body detoxes this way the breakouts are concentrated in one area on the body. For me it's my nose.
I'm also aware this probably doesn't happen to all new vegans. Maybe they detox differently?...
Yeah, my detox showed up more in headaches and hormonal flux! Really fun exciting stuff, lol. My skin has never been all that problematic, but is incredibly clear after 1yr9mos vegan.
I am 43 years old and have just finally gotten my acne to clear. i have beemn vegan (mostly) for five years. It was skin care that finally did it for me. Using coconut oil as a moisturizer is amazing. It is anti-bacterial AND what a lot of people don't know is that using oil free products is the WORST thing you can do if you have oily skin/acne issues because your skin produces MORE oil to compensate. I also use ground (colloidal) oatmeal as a cleanser/ mask. i just put organic oatmeal, lavender ,sage and seaweed in the blender and blend it up until it is semi-powdery. And i use it as a scrub and a mask. It does INCREDIBLE things for your skin!!!
And good luck I hope you get it to clear up too.
Oh I forgot the coconut oil CAN NOT be refined. It has to be raw extra virgin. The refined is cooked and will clog the pores but the extra virgin will not. And it only takes a VERY small amount.
Michelle, thanks, I just bought some today... :D
IDK if any of you noticed but that Kirk's Cocoanut Castile is very harsh and this extra virgin cocoanut oil could be the balance skin needs after using it.
coconut oil is really good for your skin... and for your hair too
^Good cuz it's fried from bleaching it platinum for years and just recently coloring it back dark auburn; my natural. It needs something to say the leaaast. It's poofy, dry, and extremely fragile.
More of my hair fell out this week, no not at the roots. It's falling out up to the part where it was last bleached. Sometimes I run my fingers through it and it's so damaged it feels like dried spider webs. Can anybody recommend something?
Between this and the zits I feel a little ugly lately.
Cocoanut oil just softens it and mends split ends. I need a vegan protein for it.
I ordered a vegan hair and body protein spray. Do you think it will work/
And no I will not cut off my hair to where the outgrowth is b/c it's only a couple inches long. I was never one for short hair, the thought scares me.
Good news -
I quit coffee for good (and cold turkey) July 22nd. I know that's not very long but I'm very serious about this.
Remember I quit meat and then all animal products cold turkey too. My willpower is strong.
I feel less groggy and I'm sleeping better, but it's too soon to tell for my acne yet. I will let you know.
