Hi guys I have a question I bought Tofu today.I have made shakes with it before. But, I have never cooked with it...do you marinate it or does it just absorb the flavours..of say a stir fry?? thanks for the advise in advance.
Personally, I always marinate! I think it absorbs some of the flavors when you throw it in a stir-fry, but not nearly enough. I generally do a marinade of olive oil, soy sauce, garlic, herbs, ginger, sesame oil - and then stir-fry veggies in that same sauce.
Tanya, have you tried the tofu dish with orange dipping sauce from the kind life cook book? it is pretty dang delish. I served it on the side with some stir-fried veggies, brown rice, and a Health is Wealth spring roll one night when I was craving some serious chinese food. It was awesome!!!!
Thanks guys!! I'm a little intimidated to try.I want to make it good so I like it the first time out.
Just make sure you buy the tofu in the produce section that is soaking in water, and not the shelf-stable stuff (silken) if you're going to marinate it. I would recommend at least extra-firm, but if you can find super-firm it's great! I FINALLY learned that the silken stuff in the shelf-stable box is ONLY good for smoothies, even if it says "extra-firm". But you probably already knew that! :)
Hi Tanya, we like to make it glazed, you just do like a styr fry then when it's ready you add some brown sugar, soy sauce, maybe some red wine, or do with some orange juice. We thorow in some nuts(pecan) and fresh basil. It's so good. Hope it helps
