Hey Everyone!

Can anyone tell me how and where to buy mochi? I'm confused as to what I'm looking for package wise...dose anyone have a picture of the mochi they buy?

Thanks everyone!

Whole foods in refridge section where the tempeh tofu etc is.

At grocery stores that carry it, it's usually near the tofu.

Yeah, get the Grainassance brand. It's so awesome! I made the mistake of getting mochi from a japanese store and it wound up being a dessert with bean paste inside...not the kind you want. You want the kind from Whole Foods. It's the best.

Mochi with a bean paste?! That sounds like it could be good, actually! My grocery store only carries the Grainassance brand, but I'm interested in what you got, Salena!

I have made the sweet mochi recipe from TKD but mine never "puff up" like hers do; they stay mostly flat. I'm cooking mine in a pan and not a cast iron skillet like she does... could that be why?

I bake it in the oven and it puffs up pretty quickly

HAHAH Yes... Mochi is also made into an ice cream like dessert at some Japanese food places. It's almost the same thing, made from rice, but its ice cream...so be careful of what you buy! But the dessert is also AMAZING if you are a flirt and want to try it! But i am not sure if it contains milk or not!
