Today I cooked brown basmati rice with steamed collard greens, bean sprouts, mushrooms, ginger, daikon and it tasted so bland...I even put a splash of miso!

I can't cook from the recipes or a cookbook every day since I'm in college, so usually I do simple grains and add some veggies, but it ends up not tasting good.

Any advice?

Olive Oil and citrus (lemon, lime, orange) are great to add to dishes. Find a marinade/ salad dressing or two that you like and use those if you are pressed for time. Find herb blends in the herb aisle (if you can get to a bulk herb section, you won't have to buy as much when youre just trying and it's cheaper.)

Braggs Liquid Aminos is my go to for flavor. I too love lemon juice, olive oil, and garlic in lots of things. Have you made gomashio? Its delicious on your rice. You could make some of the dressing in TKD and have them in the fridge to drizzle throughout the week too.

One thing I've learned making vegan meals for non-vegans is that a handful of aromatics (garlic, onions and fresh herbs) really goes a long way.

I just made these fajitas for dinner the other night and although they would work just fine with raw peppers, avocado slices and black beans straight from the can, it's really worth a few minutes extra minutes to go the full Monty.

Just about anything sauteed in olive oil with garlic and onion is going to be delicious!

You can saute a clove of garlic and a little chopped onion in a tablespoon of olive oil and when the onions are softened, add the uncooked rice and cook for a few minutes before adding the water.

In fact, to make your rice more flavorful, use veggie broth instead of water - it's better than adding salt at the end because the flavor is absorbed into the rice instead of sitting on top.

Be sure to add salt to pasta water too!
Hope that helps :)
