I'm a vegan but am trying to incorporate more macrobiotic meals into my life since my body seems to feel more clean this way. I'm usually really busy, so taking less time in the morning to get ready is a plus. At the same time, I avoid buying pretty much anything that has ingredients I can't pronounce and really want to eat the best food for my body. What are some of your favorite macrobiotic breakfast options? (That don't take too long to prepare.)

By the way I forgot to add that aside from eating a little fruit here and there, I'm allergic to sugar. Or rather, pretty much anything sweet causes my skin to go crazy (exzema, acne, "chicken" skin, etc.)

So can't have maple syrup, agave, brown rice syrup, etc. I'm just simply looking for something to eat in the morning that's a little more interesting than the typical cereal with soy milk. Oh and I'm totally open to eating what is generally meant for lunch/dinner for breakfast too.

Hi Lily :)

It sounds like you are already doing great with not eating foods with ingredients you can't pronounce :)

Ideas: Brown rice porridge (I make mine with barley and sweet corn and make enough to last a few days - probably my favourite!), Tofu scramble, steamed veggies and seeds, any left over grain made into a porridge ( just add a cup of water in and gently heat), green smoothies...the list is big but you have to find whatever works for you.

Like you, my skin is dreadful if I have sugar - I have psoriasis, so I make my breakfast a savoury one. I crave my brown rice porridge if I miss it for a few days!

Good luck and sounds as if you are doing brilliantly anyway :) :)

Hey Lily - I too don't have much time for breakfast. For pretty much two years straight, I make a pot of brown rice Sunday evening and have brown rice porridge all week. I put a variety of toppings on it depending on how superhero I am feeling. I have a jar in the fridge of toppings that I can just pour on - right now it consists of: flax meal, chia seeds, almonds and raisins. Then I throw a splash of nut milk on and maybe some cinnamon or blueberries. Sometime just rice and an umeboshi plum. Very very quick and filling - I have a big bowl full as it needs to last me till lunch time......I don't use any "sugar" - the raisins and the brown rice are sweet enough!

Yes porridge is a staple for macro breakfast. Best mixture for me is short grain brown rice, black forbidden rice, and bhutanese red rice. I top it off with dulse flakes and it the porridge with side of steamed collard greens.
