I made the black bean brownies and they ended up tasting like beans, bananas, and oats. Nothing like brownies.

What could I be doing wrong?

I made the ones in Rocco's 'Eat this' book and they were super gross- like sugary black beans with a horrible aftertaste. I'm not sure what went wrong either....

I find that all of those black bean brownie recipes taste better when combined with another more dominate flavor AND cocoa.

Example: peanut butter chocolate brownies

espresso cocoa brownies

or mint chocolate brownies

I also tried them - I got the recipe from Dr Oz's website..it was gross too. Tasted like sweet chocolate black beans. seems it might be better with something else. Don't know what tho...maybe tofu? I'm not a big fan of tofu and am not adventurist in trying to cook with it....but silken tofu might be good..

I made some black bean brownies using the chewy fudge brownie mix by Duncan Hines (It is vegan), then I added one can of pureed black beans (do not rinse the beans). They were FABULOUS!!! It's great if you need to make a quick dessert.

Oh and no water or oil are needed at all. Just the mix and the beans :)

I think you have to let them cool completely.

oh damn cynthia that sounds soooo good! i will try that! i'm all about the fast and easy. they do have the sugar in them tho, i'm trying to detox from sugar as i'm an addict.

did you buy pureed black beans or did you puree them your self in the blender? what size can? 15oz?

Haha I'm the same way Jacqui! I enjoy baking but there are definitely times I just want to make something fast.

I bought a 15oz can of black beans and pureed them myself in a mini chopper. I'm sure a blender would work just as well. Good luck! Let me know how you like them! :)
