Hi from Cape Breton island, in eastern Canada. I was referred to this site by someone in my local community who recently signed on to the Facebook page for AN UNLIKELY VEGAN. This is a community video documentary which I am making, mostly during the upcoming April PCRM Vegan Kickstart. We are getting lots of community support and involvement, and are really excited about the project. People are doing things from hosting a special Vegan Night at their local restaurant, to referring me to great sites like this.

Below is a little information about the AN UNLIKELY VEGAN documentary. There are also links included, if anyone should wish to follow us on Facebook or Indiegogo.

I am very happy to have found you site, and look forward to all the support you will surely provide as I embark on joining Irene (the subject of the documentary) in committing to a vegan lifestyle.

April Kickstart Documentary "An Unlikely Vegan" being made in eastern Canada

I am a documentary film maker located in eastern Canada. I have registered for the April Kickstart, with another person (Irene). We will be making a community documentary based on our experience. The documentary will be character driven, and focused on Irene. We have a medical doctor, and a chinese medicine practitioner, who have both agreed to participate in providing baseline and followup, content which we will be able to use in our documentary. We also have the support of the local Vegetarian Association, and hope to include many other local groups and individuals. The buzz about town is that we are making a "reverse supersize me documentary"!

What you could help us with:

1. follow us as we develop this project, and offer advise and opinions to make the documentary better. Our Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/pages/An-Unlikely-Vegan/112305448844747

2. let us know of any similar projects currently going on, or of similar things that may have been already done.

3. let us know of any support or resources which might be of help to us

Please note that although this is a community based endeavour, I am a professional documentary maker with many years experience in community video. I have also been a vegetarian for decades, and an active member of the Cape Breton Vegetarian Association. If you are interested in the calibre of my work, please refer to my website:

I am planning to make this documentary with my own resources, and with what we are able to raise from the community. Where there is passion, there is always a way!

The PCRM April 21-Day Vegan Kickstart has come and gone, but we are still going, and still vegan. We are currently shooting this community supported documentary under the working title "MEET IRENE - an Unlikely vegan". Keep up with our progress on facebook.com/an.unlikely.vegan.

Here we are in a very small town in a rural part of Canada, and right under our nose we discover another vegan oriented health program. This wave is amazing. Meanwhile, we are still hard at work editing. Check out our facebook page to see our trailer and stay updated.

Alicia is being promoted this week... this great ONE HOUR presentation which features her showed up in my google news report today:

She says at the onset that she didn't write her book for vegans or vegetarians, but for people who don't have the information she thinks they should have... Thank You Alicia.

Recently I asked followers on the MEET IRENE an Unlikely vegan's Facebook page to help me decide on the final title of the documentary. I was feeling worried. I wanted as many people as possible to know the story of Irene's journey toward taking responsibility for her health. I was afraid that using the word "vegan" in the title would limit the movie's chance to get seen. The strong preference was to keep the word in!

This article is a personal testimony about the "stigma" of the word VEGAN. It was refreshing to find it just after my consultation on the title of MEET IRENE an Unlikely vegan. I also recently found this quote and find it very pertinent.

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." - Mahatma Gandhi.
