Avoid Animal Humane in Albuquerque NM!

I feel the need to alert others on this, in case there are any signed up for you site in my city. I had adopted our puppy Gracie from one of the shelters in my city and had a pretty awful experience. So I turned to Animal Humane, thinking they would be a much better place. Sadly they are not. I contacted their behavioral helpline for HELP and instead got told to return my dog to the shelter! The woman was incredibly rude, she told me that my only other option was to pay $150 an hour for their behavioral specialist to work with her, but she recommended I return the dog to the shelter. I was appalled, because I simply called for help. Their receptionist had told me they are a no kill shelter, but I was told they are NOT - they just have a low kill rate. So not only did they not offer help at all, they are also not a No Kill shelter as they claimed. I tried contacting them on Facebook only to get a slew of hateful attacks misreading what I said, as though I tried to return our dog, which was not the case - it was suggested by an Animal Humane staff member. The person running their Facebook site did nothing. I finally resorted to sending an email to their executive director about all this, to which I have not received a reply. This is all very disturbing to me because not only does it seem these shelters are adopting out animals with no care as to what happens after they leave, but they are also claiming to be something they are not. It is my hope that no one has taken their animal there thinking it was No Kill only to have their animal put down. It also sickens me that instead of offering help some staff members just suggest you return your animal, with no guarantee of it's fate! If you are in the New Meixico or Albuquerque area, please do not use the Animal Humane there, for the safety of your pet!
Sorry you had such a bad experience. Sadly that is not uncommon. Not much anyone can really do about it, that's the real shame. No overseer per se.
One thing I'd like to say, PLEASE don't think a shelter that is not No-Kill is a bad shelter. For the most part the opposite is often true. Many of these places run out of room so quickly ( obviously ) that their charges are left warehoused in small, cramped, inhumane cages with next to no attention or care. Many will keep an "unadoptable" animal caged for life just so as not to be a kill shelter. This is so sad, and so inhumane, euthanasia is a far better solution.
So please, try to see the truth behind many no-kill shelters. They are not the animal eutopia they'd like you to believe they are, they're just appealling to your big hearts and your wallets!!
