hi,

I'm new to the site - but have been inspired by Alicia Silverstone whilst watching her in interviews, so I've bought the book and am going to try the Kind approach to eating.

However, can anyone tell me if they have noticed any benefits in hair growth/ healthy hair etc ?I'm just a little worried about getting enough protein/ vitamins to support my hair.

Any comments would be much appreciated x

hello! i have only been vegan for a little over 2 months now but already have noticed my hair is much healthier. actually i didnt even notice it til my mom said something to me, she asked if i was using a new shampoo lol. she said its probably all the veggies im eating, veggies were my enemy before lol. it would probably get even better if i tried the superhero plan

thanks for that angie - it's nice to have success stories to spur me on!! My hair is in pretty bad shape at the best of times and I'm just a little concerned about how it will respond to such a drastic change to my diet - it's good to know those veggies have made yours nice and healthy x

Thank you for the advice Tania - I work in a healthfood shop and we sell loads of good vegan food - so I plan to top up on that. I was just slightly concerned as I've heard conflicting stories about the effect becoming vegan can have on your hair. Some people say it's never been fuller and healthier, yet other's talk about hair falling out! As my hair is already so fine - I just really don't want to risk that. However, I have read a few previous entries and it appears that so long as protein levels are sufficient and B12 is taken as a supplement - there should be no reason to worry !

I'm just waiting for the postman to hurry up and bring me Alicia's book !! ; ) xx

I've noticed my hair is healthier too after adopting a vegan diet. I've also stopped dyeing my hair and embracing the salt and pepper look at 30! It is so liberating to be free of the monthly touch ups and messy stains on my towels and bathroom floor.

I've discovered an awesome vegan hair product company called Onesta. They use all organic plant based ingredients with no animal products. No hard chemicals and it makes your hair so soft and protects it from the heat of straightening and styling. I use the Smooth & Shine Thermal Straightening Creme and it works wonders!

the website looks very cool - but I think this is an American webiste - probably quite expensive to ship to the UK - but it has inspired me to look for a really good Vegan haircare range here.

I'm pleased that your hair is healthier . I really hope I can report the same in 6mths time - as I've pretty much spent my twenties eating pure carbs, smoking and drinking and it's finally surfaced in the terrible condition of my hair. I've made drastic changes already (stopped smoking and became vegetarian a couple months ago). After training as an aromatherapy massage therapist and working in a health food shop, I've finally begun to put two and two together - put beige, processes food into your body and feel run down and crap,!Put plants in your body and you'll feel amazing!!! A child could figure that out, yet few people do it!! ; )
