Flax seed=carcinogen??????

I had a doctor tell me today that flax seed oil can be a carcinogen...I was getting bad vibes from him from the beginning. I think he was partly being difficult because I had gone to another doctor to get a second opinion and it hurt his ego. Anyway- this other doctor recommended I take 3,000mg of Barlean's flax seed oil for dry eye. To my knowledge this doctor is not a vegan and doesn't even know I am one but she just suggested it because she thought it was the best thing to do. Well this other doctor keeps trying to get me to take fish oil even though I have told him at least three times I am Vegan. I am a little confused, I think I read quite a bit of literature here and there and I haven't heard anything about it being a carcinogen. He said it was unstable and broke down in an odd pathway unlike fish oil. He also told me it promoted inflammation while fish oil is anti-inflammatory. Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!

I took a nutrition class from a Naturopathic doctor. She said that Flax seed oil is very fragile. That extracting it from the seeds causes it to go rancid. When oil goes rancid it creates free radicals. Thus the carcinogenic oil.

Thanks for your input. So I am assuming your advice would be to stop taking it? I do feel that it has dramatically improved my dry eye situation when nothing else has...thats the only reason I was bummed to hear about this.
