I have been suffering with acid reflux for a few years. Taking a lot of medication for this, both Rx and OTC. Has anyone with this condition improved with vegan diet? I have to avoid fried food and certain vegetables (onions and tomatoes). I gave up red meat over a year ago and recently stopped all dairy.

I have severe GERD as well, so I do FEEL your pain. All cases are diferent but here is few suggestions .....

Keep a journal on what you eat, activities, etc.... and then you can start to eliminate, a quasi Glueten Free diet really helps (check out Baby Cakes cook book for some amazing vegan gluten free stuff)

Be patient.

Finally, it is okay to take Gaviscon when the GERD is bad, do this until you find balance.

Be patient.

Thanks for the info. I am going to look into the gluten free diet and see if I find the gaviscon. Do they sell it in the US?

First off 9/10 acid reflux and heartburn symptoms are most commonly caused by lack of stomach acid rather than too much. Doctors will just prescribe proton pump inhibitors and ant-acids without even knowing. This causes more problems by neutralizing stomach acid production.

Bitter herbs on the back of the tongue pre meal are a good start.

Fermented foods to repopulate the gut flora also such as water kefir, cultured veggies, miso etc.

I have an acid reflux issue for almost a year now and avoided coffee at all cost. A friend recommended me to try a high-end coffee that is less acidic and do not cause acid reflux and it work well. I love coffee again. =)
