Help! I've just got Alicia's book from Amazon.com and want to strive for a Vegan life. I am a Soldier stationed in Korea and I have tended to do low carb diets in the past when I've gotten 15 lbs or so too heavy. I am 6'2'' and weigh 215lbs. I need to get down to 200lbs. How do I do that on a Vegan diet and how do I lower my carbs without eating meat? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Carbs are important for energy. The important thing is to eat the right carbs, like brown rice, quinoa, barley, etc . . . unprocessed carbs, not white rice or refined carbs like that. Those are the ones that put the weight on. You can limit your carbs, but I wouldn't completely cut them out. If you follow Alicia's suggestions in the book and drop the meat and cheeses, you will lose the 15 pounds even with the carbs I think. When my husband became vegan and was also looking to lose weight, his meals were 3/4 veggie and 1/4 unprocessed carbs. He lost 60 pounds. Also, if you cut out processed foods and sugar it will be easier for you to lose the weight. Good luck!
