feather hair extensions

I am a hairstylist and seems the latest trend is the feather hair extensions. They look really cool but I don't want to wear them because they are made from real feathers that ate taken from roosters I think mostly.

The crazy thing is the part of town that I do hair has roosters and chickens just in the streets. Lol I know that sounds funny but it is true and this is not out in the country. Anyway the people I work with think the birds are beautiful and so concerned when one gets hurt or hit by a car but yet they still eat chicken. Well that is another subject all together.

Clients are going to be asking me to apply these extensions to their hair. I could make a lot of money doing this and I am very torn about it. I volunteer at an animal shelter so what I am thinking is when I make money on these extensions to give that money to the shelter. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm so curious too, did you find out anything?

I think I would not do it even if you were giving the money away to a charity because by doing it, you are supporting the idea and contributing to the problem of disrespect of animals. But, it is up to you. Animals raised for feathers live extremely painful and awful lives.

Is there a faux version of these hair feathers? My daughter wants them but if they are real, I will not let her. I definitely would have no part in using real feathers but I understand your point in donating the proceeds...hope all works out!

There is no faux version of these ridiculous things because faux feathers melt when subject to blow drying. This new trend is a classic case of humans acting completely grossly and selfishly. The feathers come from real birds that are treated cruelly and do not survive the brutally painful plucking process. I HOPE THAT ALICIA WILL BECOME AWARE OF THIS NEW FASHION TREND AND SPEAK OUT PUBLICLY AGAINST IT...PLEASE!! Something can still be done before the trend becomes too popular and millions of birds suffer for absolutely no good reason. Please tell your families and friends not to support this business. Thank you.

My thoughts exactly Jennifer. There are so many other cute things that you could do to your hair.

I've contacted PETA to try to get to the bottom of this, since I do freelance writing on sustainable, animal friendly trends.

Wow, what an utter waste of so many lives. Just for hair extensions. What is wrong with people?

Debby, thank you for asking the question. I'm sure a lot of people have the same dilemma.

If it were me, I would not do the extensions, even if it meant I could give more money to animal causes.

Good luck to you.
