It's only day 2 of superhero-ness, and I'm already sick of brown rice. I haven't eaten anything packaged (except 3 triscuits today) and actually feel great. I'm going through a mini detox, but since I was already a 2 year vegan it didn't do a whole lot. I love salads and steamed greens, and I'm getting good at chewing. But my weakness is peanut butter. Is it OK to have peanut butter as a superhero? I don't see the difference between that and eating roasted sunflower seeds, but feel free to argue.

Any suggestions for breakfast in particularly? I've had rice with seeds and a teaspoon of maple syrup in the morning, rice with gomashio and steamed greens for lunch, and beans and rice with baked kale and carrots for dinner. Thanks :)

hey olivia!

i too am new to the superhero-ness and so far i love it! i feel more awake and alert plus i love the food! well i do miss chocolate a bit...

as for peanut butter, i love it too! i can't seem to get enough! with the super hero phase, however, i think nut butters are limited. nuts are limited to about a cup a week, so nut butters which are more heavily concentrated with fat i limit to about 2 tablespoons a week if that. not only are they more heavily concentrated with fat but they make me feel so groggy and heavy afterwards.

as for food variety, maybe take a trip to a co-op, whole foods, or trader joes to find some really cool grains like quinoa, millet, or couscous. I also found out about a whole bunch of different veggies ive never tried before like collard greens and stuff like that. I honestly think its quite an adventure trying out new foods like these so im never bored!

for breakfast, i love oatmeal, millet and rice porridge (i just throw leftover rice or whatever grain in a pot with water and simmer until most of the water is soaked up then if any is left i drain it. i also like fruit for breakfast and tofu scramble when i have time to make it. Also on the superhero note, im going to start trying miso soup for breakfast, like making a big batch that lasts a couple of days and then heating it up in the morning.

hope this helped! let me know if you have any more ideas! :)

Hi Olivia,

I agree with Alicia. Try and listen to what your body responds to, if you feel good eating peanut butter and your body reacts well with it then go ahead :) Macrobiotics is about finding what works for you individually. So just try and experiment with different things. I actually find tahini butter to be more macro so maybe play with that.

What also helps is being macro most of the time not all the time :D

What I know about the peanut butter situation is that peanuts provoke an inflammatory response in the body, and often can contain molds... they are also just high in fat. These are probably the reasons they are not included in superhero fare.

But like someone else said, it's all about how you feel eating it yourself!
