Hi Kind Lifers! I have a friend who has a five year old daughter who is starting to ask lots of questions about their vegan lifestyle... Do any of you have suggestions for great veg kids books that help explain a kind life in a way that would make sense to a five year old?

Cows are Vegetarians is short and cute...probably good for a 5 year old!

That's Why We Don't Eat Animals is another good one!

My friend wrote/designed/self published this awesome children's book that invites children and adults to think through important questions about who we eat and how it feels to be food.

this is silly,,,,but i went online and showed my 3 and 4 year old boys photos of really bad teeth,,,then i explained to them that certain foods give them "the black tooth"......they will ask me,,,,,,"is this black tooth?'...... if i say yes,,,they will throw it down and never ask again!!

i have raised 14 and 17 year old vegan children,,, and am now raising my boys organic vegan/raw ...... children do not need everything to be sugar coated for them,,,,,,they really can handle the impact of direct truth,,,,,,, show your children the video 'MEET YOUR MEAT".....its on youtube, and it will impact them in a way that will last forever,,,,,,,i showed it to my oldest children when they were 9 and 5....they remember it to this day, and remain vegetarian , they even thank me~!! good luck to you all, and your children~!! xoxo

Also, my family is omni and I am vegan. My three year old recently was pretending to cook for me, and told me she was making soup. When I asked what kind she said chicken and I said, 'oh, can I please have vegetable soup instead?'

"Why Momma?"

'Because Momma doesn't eat chickens, honey'

"Oh, well this is not real chickens, it is the chicken people eat"

'But that's the same thing. The farmer feeds the chickens until they get big and fat, then he cuts their heads off and pulls their feathers out and sends them to the grocery store. People buy them to cook and eat for dinner. But Momma doesn't eat any kind of animals.'

(look of complete shock...pause...) "Well, that's fine then, I will make you some veggie soup for you."

Every dinner since then, she asks me who cut the brocolli's head off(or the salad's or whatever)! ROFL She is starting to understand and sometimes will refuse meat now, which delights me to no end!

French- that is adorable.

I , too, am in an omni family and a lone veg. I just bought That's Why We Don't Eat Animals. I am anxiously awaiting its arrival. Also someone told me the Farm Sanctuary has some good resources

I like That's Why We Don't Eat Animals too. The author, Ruby Roth, has another children's book called Vegan Is Love.. I haven't been able to find it yet but I'll definitely be buying it when I do.
