Strayed from vegan - ready to go back

I started experimenting with a vegan diet about 2-3 months before i got pregnant. I was loving how I felt and excited about the change. Around week 8 of my pregnancy I caved and started back to my regular meat/dairy/anything goes diet mainly because of nausea and cravings.
I am 24 weeks now and am feeling much better (except for getting larger and dealing with the heat/humidity). My mindset was that I would go back to vegan after the birth but I have put on 30 pounds already and feel disgusting in my own skin.
Is it possible to go back to a vegan diet midway thru my pregnancy? I don't want to use excuses but I feel like it worked so well for me in the winter when we were inside more and I had more time to cook. I have twins 3 yr. old boys and we are outside from sunup to sundown now in summer. Our budget is super tight and I feel like I have no time to prepare. I know there is a way to make this work but I am out of practice and wasn't vegan for very long so I don't know all the shortcuts & ideas, especially now that it's summer.
I was so upset when my dr. told me about my weight - he was pretty harsh. I didn't have any issues with the twins pregnancy. But today I feel that it was a wake up call and I have to take care of my health sooner than later. Even if I don't have time to committ to exercising - I know I can make make positive changes in my diet. I also plan to nurse. I just don't want to be 10 steps behind with my health and weight after pregnancy. I already feel like I have put myself in a bad position but I don't want to make it worse.
Any one else go thru something similar? Or any ideas/suggestions would be so helpful!
Thanks!

I, too, dabbled in a vegan lifestyle before getting pregnant. I strayed and went back to eating anything my body would accept. Now, 24 weeks, I am really wanting to go back. My problem is that I am rarely hungry. When I am, I can eat the smallest amount and feel full. My concern is, how do I get adequate calories when I just don't want to eat! What I have found to help (once my husband stops cooking meat in it) is a crock pot and a rice maker. Both can cook until done, and sit all day!
Good luck! and congrats on your new addition!
When I was trying to get pregnant and had just turned vegan, a nutritionist told me that I should wait 3 months after becomming vegan to try. She said that all of the toxins released during the detox might not be great for the baby. Soo...I'm wondering if you can try a middle of the road approach...maybe 70% vegan, and just really up your veggies? I'm not an expert at all though!
