Is there any substitute that tastes like nutella or a good recipe?

Justin's Chocolate Hazelnut Butter - still tons of sugar, but no milk products. I'm sure you could make your own too, though!

There's Justin's like Starflower mentioned, and there's also a brand called rawtella, though I haven't tried it myself yet. I did find a chocolate peanut butter that serves its purpose, and it had the vegan seal too--I found that one at Target!

I loved Justin's Chocolate Almond Butter... with some bananas on whole wheat toast in the morning... better than a chocolate croissant!

Rawtella makes a really good Nutella substitute. There's only 3 ingredients: hazelnuts, cacao nibs, and coconut sugar. http://www.rawtella.com/

Alicia posted a great recipe for it on this site!

If you have a high powered blender or food processor its fairly easy to make your own. I use almonds, cashews etc and a tablespoon of carob powder. Sometimes a little dates to sweeten it further but still wholefood based no syrups etc.

I haven't made my own yet, I need to buy the right machine for that. Currently I use a 'chocolate' butter made from carobe (seed pod from the Carob tree/St John's-bread) without cacao or dairy (brand: Molenaartje) and a regular one without dairy (brand: Chocoreale). I'm from the Netherlands though and I'm not sure if these brands are sold elsewhere...

I have made my own for a brunch, though I am more a peanutbutter and jelly kind of girl. It's easy:

Version A (you have a food processor):
roast hazelnuts
ground them in a food processor
melt some vegan margarine
add sugar and cocoa
mix well

Version B (you don't have a food processor)
buy ground hazelnuts
roast them
melt some vegan margarine
add sugar and cocoa
mix well

I am sure that you could use rice syrop instead of sugar to make this experience a rich, but healthier one ;)
Enjoy!
