Does 'not tested on animals' mean a product is vegan?

Hi there,

I have been vegan for a year now and I am so happy and healthy. Now that I have my diet 100% sorted I am now moving to making my clothing and products vegan. A lot of the main stream beauty manufacturers I have contacted say that they do not test anything on animals (Loreal and Kerastase are examples). Does this mean that the product is vegan. This may sound naiive but I cant understand how animal products would be used in shampoo or conditioner or make up in general. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I dont want to hurt any of our beloved animal friends.

Peace.

No. Just because they do not teat on animals does not mean there are no animal products in the ingrediants. Strange as it may seem, many common products contain animal by-products. Lipstick often contain whale fat, lip-balm is mostly bee's wax, fish oils in Omega-3 pills, and many not so obvious ingredients. Check out the many links on this page, and/or look for those items marked; vegan.
