Regular B12 suppliments (and fortified foods) generally contain the cyanocobalamin form of B12 that is broken down by metabolism into methylcobalamin and cyanide.

Yes cyanide the potent poison that can kill you in seconds!

After writing a blog post about B12 for vegans I wasn't sure whether it was worth seeking out the alternative form - so I though I would ask my kind friends for your opinion.

Do you think poisioning yourself with a small amount of cyanide in order to get B12 is a bad idea or are the doses so small we shouldn't worry about it?

I'm guessing, bad idea. smiley-frown.gif

Aren't there other ways to get B12?

Yes - some quality supplements contain methylcobalamin and doctors can inject hydroxocobalamin - neither of which contain cyanide. There are more details in my B12 for Vegans post.
