Veggie to Vegan and STARVING...is this normal?

A few days ago, I went from Vegetarian (eggs every day, fish a couple of times a month--haven't touched dairy in years, don't eat any meat, almost not processed food) to totally Vegan and suddenly I am STARVING, even though I'm eating totally healthy, plenty of protein, calories, etc... My question is, can giving up my two-egg-a-day habit change my appetite this much? Has anyone else had this experience?
Hey,
I'm no expert, but I've been vegan for about a year and a half and my appetite increased a lot. At first I gained weight too but now I'm back to a great weight and I feel really good. I get really hungry every 3 hours.
I was very hungry for the first three weeks of being vegan and craved cheese like crazy. In a months time I was back to normal. I think your body is just adjusting to a different way of eating. give it time.
Thanks Stephany, thanks Smurfy...really appreciate your input!
I just started the Kind Diet on the weekend. I made a plate full of veggies, chickpeas, and rice.....and I was hungrier than before I made supper!! I guess it will just take my stomach a while to adjust to a flourless and pastry diet :P
But I dont see food as the center of my life anymore. Instead I see it as a healthy necessity to experience life to its fullest :D
Hi Isabelle. I did that same thing last fall. I wanted to eat everything in sight. The appetite stabilizes after a few weeks. Just hang in there.
Thanks Cassandra and Reney. It's comforting to know that this is normal. I ate two, count 'em TWO, slices of vegan cake this evening!
Agree! I wake up starving and eat, then a few hours later, starving again. Guess it will just take time!
This was a great question! I appreciated the answers.
Have you noticed a change in energy levels? You might be moving more just during the course of the day and burning extra calories and your body is noticing!
I know this happens more frequently, though, for people like me who go from omni to vegan directly. Sounds like you had already shed the "heavy foods" typical of the modern diet.
Maybe a nutrient-dense vegan smoothie might help?
