Hello! My mom and I are travelling to NYC for the first time and we are wondering if anyone could suggest any vegetarian or vegan restaurants in Manhattan, especially places that are not overly expensive. Thanks!

For sure! Peacefood cafe on the upper west side is very reasonably priced and very delicious . It's on Amsterdam and the corner of 82nd street. I also love Sacred Chow on Sullivan street. Also reasonably priced. Caravan of Dreams in the east village is incredible although some might find it more expensive. Also down the block from Caravan is Lulas sweet apothecary which is a must!. Their vegan ice-cream and soft serve is unbelievable! There are so many great places. Hope these few help! Enjoy your trip! Much love

What about the "Loving Hut"? I have never been there but they are opening one here in the Albany, NY area (in Delmar), actually and I went on line and they seem to be pretty "awesome"...like I want to work there "AWESOME" I don't know where they are located in NYC but go on line and if you do go there please let me know how it was!

Bon Apetit

Loving Hut is at 348 7th Avenue between 29th and 30th Streets. The food is quite good and fairly healthy vegan fast food. It's really small though--more of a place for a quick bite or take-out than a real sit-down dinner.

I love all the places Tali mentioned: you might also want to check out the Blossom Cafe. They have a couple of locations; one in Chelsea and one on the UWS. They're a bit pricier than some of the other places mentioned but good for a splurge. There's also Organic Grill on Second Avenue in the East Village and Pukk (vegan Thai) on First Avenue, also in the East Village. If you just want a quick slice of vegan pizza, Viva Herbal Pizza on Second Avenue between 11th and 12th Streets is a good bet.

Just have to add Lan Cafe to the list. It's a vegan Vietnamese place at 342 E. 6th. Very simple but delicious food. No alcohol but you can bring your own. Super cheap.

If you want super-cheap yummy vegan dim sum try the Vegetarian Dim Sum House at 24 Pell Street. Cash only, very informal.

I just revisted the big apple and I'm working on getting a post up, if you do hit up caravan of dreams, skip the desert and head to lula's! oh and i second sacred chow! I wrote a post about them and tried to recreate their cake batter ice cream!
