I just got a phone call from a good friend of mine that she's going to be getting married in Hong Kong and that she's going to have a whole week of events planned out the week before the wedding. First though was, omg, what am I gonna eat being a superhero vegan!? How do I deal with this? I know that the places they're going to go and eat and plan meals are are not vegan. And it's in a place where I don't know the language :P I don't want to starve, but I don't want to be the burden.

Do what ya gotta do. Bring what you can bring. Eat what looks eatable. It's all you can do. Not going is out of the question because this is a good friend of yours.

Hopefully your friend or someone that you will be with can speak vegan, if so just ask the waiter if they have any vegan choices or could rustle up something vegan.

From what ive heard Asia is pretty good for vegan restaurants.

Thank you thank you all for your feedback. It makes me feel a lot better to know I can come here for support :) I thought the best thing to do is talk to my friend about it. I actually just wrote my friend telling her that I am having some anxiety about being vegan in Hong Kong because I want to go to all the places they go but don't want to be a burden. It helped just telling her about. I have not heard back from her yet but I'll let you guys know ;)

I've been liking the Garden of Life Raw Meal protein powder/

meal replacement

it comes in small packets too

or a big jar that does not have to be in the fridge so far as I understand.

I think it can be brought through customs, powder?

it's filling, 34 g protein

I know its a supplement really, yet

I for one somehow became anemic after many vegan years,

so as its a food in a way with 100% iron, I've been taking it

I also do yoga things, so can't always eat heavy proteins like beans, quinoa even

My biggest thing would be not getting sick,

my sister may have gotten parasites there

I would stick to 5 star hotels to eat at

Bring trail mix perhaps?

trust your gut,

do what's right for you.

There is an iphone app that can convert the word vegan in lots of languages, you could try showing that to a waiting staff? The far east is the home of tofu and seitan remember you are safe with that. Just watch out for fish sauce added to sauces. I have my own vegan blog http://www.asavegan.co.uk I hope you like it smiley-smile.gif

I think Chloe's idea is good, to tell them that you are Buddhist. They might respect religious reasons more and you won't have to explain as much!
