My husband and I are venturing into Vegan and are half way through TKD book. The biggest challenges we are having are 1) we are very new to grains. Our biggest grain intake is wheat bread and I don't believe it's a good wheat bread at that. Any suggestions on the easist way to add grains to our diet and the grains we should be focusing on?

Brown rice is a good basic grain & it's just so versatile...I think you'll find yourself using it a lot. Great for stir-fry, as a side dish, pilafs, loafs, salads or use in nori rolls. Oatmeal (not the instant kind) in the mornings is another way to add a grain or make some oatmeal cookies. I think all you need is a couple more cookbooks or visit some vegan blogs to get more recipes & try to branch out using other grains like barley (great in soups) or quinoa.

I like the Sasquatch bread from http://rainierorganicbakery.com/. It is flourless and I don't think it has any sweeteners. It is made from a lot of sprouts but this brand I believe is only in the NW. Have you tried whole wheat berries? Yummy .... a bit sweet. Good luck! I am also trying to find healthier grains ... I was going crazy without bread.
