Hi! I'm Heather. 26, wife, mom of two. I've toyed around with vegetarian/veganism for years, but finally everything clicked and I've decided "this is it."
My carnivore husband is actually wanting to join me! :O
My two young daughters are now not being served meat or dairy at home.
Excited about talking with others, as I am a Christian in the south... So... yeah. Not many vegans. I don't even want to tell people, as I know they will accuse me of abusing my kids.
But I know what I know, I'm a researcher and I just can't go back.
:)
Hi Heather,
Congrats on the switch! Yay that your husband is on board with you.
Just like you don't have to advertise your charity, you don't have to tell people about your switch. Let your kindness and love be an unspoken example to others. :-)
Congrats Heather.
I am also a mother a two small toddlers. A month ago I raided my cupboards, and fridge for junk, meats, artifical flavors and more. We are still eating chicken, on tuesdays but are working our way to becoming a vegan. I am struggling this week. I have been working out and trying to sleep but with a 3 year old and a one year old this can be a heavy task. My husband and daughter still eat beef, less pork and chicken but I am slowly wheening them off. I totally get the pressure of others. MY MOTHER AND GRANPARENTS think I will be starving myself and my children but I just know that this is the best thing.
The only thing I am having a difficult time with is eating all Organic. The cost associated is so much over here. My husband is wokring three jobs and I am home with the kids and work at night just to get rid of some debt so this is the thing I have a hard time with.
Any words of encourgement? Help?
Justina
Hi Justina,
Have you heard of the "dirty dozen" for organics? Its a list of the most contaminated foods for pesticides/chemicals etc. I would strive to buy organic when it comes to foods on that list.
There are some foods that, if you cant afford to pay for organic, are no so contaminated..things like rinds such as oranges and bananas.
Hope that helps!
