Hungry at night

For about 5 years now, I have had a problem with strong cravings around 8-10 pm. Recently, I have been drinking the daikon-carrot weight loss tea in the morning (4 days strong), but I still feel as though my overeating at night counteracts any effects the tea could have.

As an example, Today I had

Weight-loss tea 630 am

Miso soup from TKL with Kale, Celery, Apple juice 900 am

2 falafels with hummus 11 am

A daiya mozerella quasadille on small corn tortilla 1130 am

*peanut butter and carob chips (2 tbsp each) 12 pm

Iced coffee 1pm

Risotto from TKL, broccoli, mashed potatoes 6 pm

*Another daiya quesdailla, PLUS nachos, PLUS more peanut butter and carob chips 9-10 pm

The * is for things I know I shouldn't have eaten, but I felt like I needed more to fill me up. However, 2 tbsp of peanut butter is 180 calories, and when I'm eating it it's straight from the jar. Am I not eating enough during the day? Does anyone else struggle with being hungriest at night or have any advice to balance my hunger? I feel as though it is out of my control.

I'm just starting out myself, Shay. Day 3 of superhero for me. So I don't really have any advice to offer you. I have been eating lots of the whole grains which keeps me full (although I think I'm eating too many and carb overloading). But looking at your menu for the day, perhaps a serving of plain cooked whole grains in there somewhere would help stave off your hunger.

Best of luck!

Songcather,

Thank you for the advice. I'm trying it today. For lunch I'm having a rice recipe from TKL for lunch, along with some broccoli, and I had oatmeal after the weight loss tea for breakfast. I, too, just started superhero a few days ago and I fear I will overload on the grains. However, in the beginning I'm allowing myself to eat as much as I want, as long as it is considered superhero. After the detox and sugar cravings end, I'm hoping my hunger will be stableized and I won't feel the need to overeat. Thanks again for sharing!

You could also try having a more substantial breakfast.

I have been having my tea and miso at home in the mornings to wake my body up and get it going around 7 - 8 and then I make either the tofu scramble or the rice porridge and bring that to work with me and eat that around 9 - 930. Mind you Im only having about a cup of miso in the am - but it helps with the hunger and keeps you feeling full for the better part of the day so you dont feel like you need to sneak snacks and such.

Hope this helps!

I always get the muchies at night and it has nothing to do with hunger. Best thing for me is grapes or fruit cut up into small pieces so it feels snacky:)

Is it full on hunger? Or just the desire to snack on something? Do you think it might be partly habitual?

Would you be able to try something like celery sticks and a bit of humous? Celery is good because it's a natural sedative so would help your body wind down too.

I used to get nighttime munchies and horribly overeat. Now I eat three hours before going to sleep, and take a long walk before going to sleep.Make sure to chew your food well! Have fiber rich foods, such as beans, grains and vegetables, which fill you up.If you are still hungry,or have a feeling you will be,make a healthy dessert to have on hand or some nice fruit to end the meal with. It's really helped my munchies craving!

I dont know you personally but, in my oppinion it looks like your eating too little during the day. I also have the same problem and, I also take meds so I get cravings at night;(. I find that if I eat during the day regularly then have something light at night I am ok. Hope I helped

Yes Brigit I agree. It's hard for me because I'm just not that hungry in the morning. but Perhaps if I force myself to not eat after a certain time just one night, I will be hungry that morning and then can eat a bigger breakfast.
