I am a flirting new vegan (been trying on and off) and I am doing really good with all the new recipies available but I LOVE cheese. Especially Mozzarella and speical dutch cheese. Any help on cheese substitues or non animal based cheese would be greatly appreciated.

Just a note... I added cinnamon to my morning fruit smoothy as suggested and what a difference. I luv it!

Have a beautiful day!

Try to find Daiya Cheese in a market or Whole Foods near you. Another good alternative is Teese Cheese and Follow Your Heart Cheese. All Vegan!

why don't you make your own? you can google "almond/cashew cheeze" or "almond feta" and you'll find lots of quick and easy recipes;

basic ingredients that i always use are:

almond meal or ground almonds

water

lemon juice

garlic

herbs and spices to taste

nutritional yeast

oil

you can then bake it until it browns or use it as cheese spread

Yvonne-- You may be like me. I was such a huge cheese eater before going vegan that no vegan cheese was any good for me at first. I had to give up cheese-based foods altogether for about three months until I broke that cheese addiction. I used a lot of beans and nuts and almond butter to fill the hole left from a lack of cheese. The good news is that, after the three months, magically the daiya DID taste good. Now I do enjoy it, but cheese has never been at the top of my list since going vegan. Good luck!

Daiya cheese is my favorite. Gotta watch out with fake cheese because it is significantly processed and not great for your health.
Another thing to consider is that vegan cheese lacks the casomorphins that real cheese has. This addictive substance is what keeps calves close to mom, vegetarians from going vegan, and vegans from staying vegan.
