Alicia first spoke abpout Pete the Moose many many months ago. He is now (supposedly) In danger again, and i just want to make evryone aware of that. I had made a donation when i first heard the news of Pete the moose, to help him be saved and stay with his owner but the Vermont government is making this a very big problem for Pete and David (his owner). As of now i heard he has been taken away from his owner and has been put in a hunting area. You could read more about Pete and his situation at www.savepetethemoose.org. You could also check out his Facebook page or search him on Youtube as well.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Stacy,

The whole Pete the Moose situation is a very sensitive issue. Although well-intentioned, the movement to save Pete caused serious problems that would have potentially put thousands of animals in danger by putting pressure to pass a law privatizing wildlife, and (unintentionally) allowing these animals to be shot at "canned" hunts. Pete's owner actually OWNS a canned hunt in VT - one that has been grandfathered in, since canned hunts are now prohibited in VT. There are many sanctuaries that have volunteered to take Pete in, which would actually make him safer. So...by being with his owner, he was ON a canned hunt already. If you haven't heard of canned hunts, definitely check them out - they're horrible!

When the VT legislature corrected its mistake this year, there's a special provision in there requiring Pete's life to be spared. So I promise that the government is not interfering in any way that's detrimental to Pete.

Although we all love Pete, don't feel sympathy for his owner. He fenced in his property - PURPOSELY fencing in wild deer and elk...so he could charge people to come in and shoot the animals while they couldn't escape.

Wow! thanks so much for responding and for all that information! I will definitally look into canned hunts as i have not heard about that before. I never know what to believe and what not to beleive when it comes to all of this stuff and now that you brought to light the situation with Pete and his owner i am even more disgusted then before! hopefully Pete (as well as any animal endagered) finds a nice home at an animal sanctuary or someplace safe......again, i appreciate all your information ...thank you!
