Everyday I feel so compelled to post articles and videos on Facebook, hoping to affect someone enough to get them open to at least reducing their meet consumption, and at least being open to the idea of alternatives. At one point I was posting daily videos like earthlings etc. I realized though that posting things that are negative, at least on a regular basis, may actually just make people feel criticized and push them away. So I starting posting things that are a little more upbeat or just informative. I like posting things that really appeal to those only open to reducing consumption of meat, since that's as far as most wil go. And while that's not ideal it is something. Today I posted this video, I find super informative and inviting for those who don't want to be vegetaria s. I invite you all to share it too, on your Facebook twitter, everywhere!
http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/mark_bittman_on_what_s_wrong_with_what_we_eat.html . Id like to think that if I send positive messages through cool recipes, websites etc, in moderation, it might make a difference. I wish I could do more. Sometimes I feel like handing out a bunch of fliers around my university, I just want people to SEE the information. But then I just think of all the paper that will bewasted and probably not recycled lol. How do you guys spread the word? Ps. I saw this in the previous link and I think we all should take part! http://www.lisaviger.com/faces/

I feel like this sometimes too in that you just want people to know and understand ... it's tricky, I think the positive approach is a good one though ... it also paints a friendly view of vegans as people tend to stereotype us I've found. Anyhow, I'm sure you've made an impact on people you don't even know ... smiley-smile.gif

I feel exactly the same way! I want my loved ones to eat healthy and live long, but most people dont want to hear what's right. It seems as though if a person with unhealthy eating habbits finds out im a vegetarian and advocate for healthy eating, they attack/criticize me for everything any vegetarian has ever said to them. I am not forcing anything on anyone, I am peacefully suggesting healthier eating habbits. I feel so defeated sometimes :(

It takes resources and vision. You can only get so far on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Much to her credit, Alicia didn't really use her celebrity status to get the word out....she used her resources and her vision. The people she knew, her own research, OK, a bit of money, and her vision are, in my opinion, what made her succeed. Many other famous folks before her failed because they relied on being famous. Look at the phenomenal success of 'Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead'. This guy, Joe Cross, was completely unknown. Resourceful yes, but completely unknown. He used his resources and vision to produce a documentary which is really successful. I feel it's better to refer folks to this website and to documentaries such as his, as well as the others which are equally awesome. Why begin a crusade which has already begun? That's why we're here.... all we can do is try to help others help themselves. I'm pretty sure that's what Alicia, Joe, and the likes of them would like us to do.

I think I just made an impact on someone, after I became vegan I started telling people about how seemingly innocent actions impact our environment. Seeing the effort I put into making my own food (vegan options are just rare here)and the switch from buying everyday products to making my own eco-friendly version, those little things may have opened up his mind that I am doing this not for vanity. He gave me 2690 sq.ft. of land to build a eco friendly house, that will serve as my home and office for the foundation I am thinking of opening. I am thinking of using 500sq.ft. as an eco house, and the rest for gardening of veggies, fruits and fruit bearing trees and a small barn like room for demos on how to make eco friendly household cleaners and sustainable living seminars for those who have no access to internet and materials. to provide eco friendly livelihood to individuals thus reducing impact on the environment and reducing unemployment rate. I am now looking for like minded individuals who would like to invest on my vision and dream. help me help people.
