Ok,I've been a vegan for several years now.Actually from August till the beginning of this month I was totally raw! I felt FANTASTIC,but was concerned about getting enough calcium and protein in my diet.So I've incorporated back whole grains, beans and legumes back in.
Usually around my PMS I crave chocolate, but I've been using carob instead,as the theobormine in cacao is addictive.Bad experiences there LOL. Anyway,my body has been craving salt and fat..so I find myself eating (right now) avocaco with garlic sesame seeds and baked corn chips.I've put on seeminlgy five pounds in two days, and yesterday I couldn't stop eating dates, figs, pumpkin with spices and almond carob smoothies.
So while I try to stick to a superhero diet,my body really misses the juices. So I make fresh protein smoothies with fruit and VEGA powder and almond milk in the morning. The danger area for me is in the afternoon,as my metabolism picks up and my blood sugar drops.I try to have a Prana bar or dried fruit, but when I get home I inevitably cave in to the munchies...and my munchie cravings are dangerous!
SUPPORT PLEASE!
Hi Tajna :)
I follow a macrobiotic / raw diet. I say both, because here, in the very hot months, I live off smoothies for breakfast and sometimes lunch too. I always have some raw snack bars / energy bars (homemade) around as, like you, I get SO tired mid-afternoon.
I certainly wouldn't call it cheating. But, do look at your diet overall and make sure you are not having too much of one thing and therefore craving something else. For example, if you have too much sweet, then your body will crave salty things.
My macro counsellor has always said the juices and green smoothies are fine as long as you balance everything out during the day.
I hope this helps a little! The best bet is to listen to your body and go from there...they are wonderful machines and I think you are probably doing so great anyway :)
Thanks! I've never been to see a macrobiotoic specialist or counselor before. Some aspects of the macrobiotic diet I like-the vegetables, whole grains,beans-however all the high sodium Asian food such as Miso gave me TERRIBLE cravings for overly sweet things.I can say I was macrobiotic for a few months earlier this year, but all that salt and sodium really threw my body out of whack.
Yeah last night pretty much everything I had was healthy.Even the chips were baked, even though NORMALLY I would never have such a processed food. This morning I had fresh papaya with blueberries and dried figs, which really helped to move all that I hate eaten yesterday.I plan on having a nice big green juice (spinach, kale, fruit, etc) along with quinoa and more vegetables for lunch, and a nice protein smoothie for a snack. My body is feeling a lot less "needy" for fats, salts and sugars today.I think that I don't eat many of those normally,so my body needed to have a fair sized amount to store for the duration of the period.I've researched that so it makes sense to me now!
Yes,I treat my body very well these days, and thanks for your feedback!
Interesting... never heard of superhero diet. I'll have to look into it.
