Humane Mouse Traps?

I have field mice coming into my pantry from my garage. While they are adorable, they are eating my boxed foods and pooping/peeing in my pantry. Its very unsanitary. I have to get them out of the house but am unwilling to use poison or death traps. Does anyone know of a good brand or type of mouse trap I can purchase at the store that does not kill them?

There are "humane" traps around my office, but I don't think they are affective at all. Problem is, once one mouse is trapped, it will squeal and squeal and then no other mice will get tricked the second time.

I had a small mouse problem in my apartment a few months ago. To deal with them, I cleaned my home, top to bottom, in order to eliminate any sources of food that could be attracting them. Boxed foods went into glass/tupperware containers that they couldn't get into. The cupboards and the containers themselves were cleaned to eliminate any odors as well.

Also, I looked for any possible entrances. I blocked off any holes in the walls. Then, as a final measure, I spritzed entrances with water scented with peppermint oil. The peppermint apparently fools their senses so they can't smell food. If they can't smell it, they won't be attracted to it.

I did this once and never had to deal with the mice again. Apparently there are still mice in the building, but I never saw them or their droppings again in my suite.

Hope that helps,

Mary

Thank you Mary. I will take your advice and clean house. I actually have peppermint oil also. I hope it works for me. I want them to live, just not in my pantry!
