Hi,

I commend you on your 2wks meat soberness ;) Think about this from a difficult angle, don't, instead of trying to "substitute" for meat, think about you discovering something more than JUST meat. Great places to start is tempeh and seitan.

I've tried the seitan before and when I cooked it, it didn't taste that great but I was kind of winging it. lol, and what is tempeh and where can I get seitan and tempeh at in a grocery store? thanks for your advice and commentssmiley-smile.gif

Hi Ultima, congrats on your transition to a veg lifestyle! To answer your question you can get tempeh at Health Food stores and most grocery stores. It's in the section where they have the veggie meat and cheeses. It's really yum! I haven't had any luck with finding seitan at the store but I have made it. Don't worry too much about buying substitutes. I did that when I first went vegan and for me, it was a waste of money! Now, I hardly ever have any meat or cheese substitutes; I mostly eat greens, veggies, nuts and seeds. Once in a while I'll have grains and beans, and maybe once or twice a month I'll have tofu or tempeh. Everyone's body reacts differently to food. Mine functons best when I eat this way. Hope this helps!

Hi,

Vesna gives great advice, and like her I too also eat mostly just whole foods cuz i am macrobiotic. But she is right that you'll find them in grocery stores, the natural ones like whole foods. But you can also order TVP online (it's dry so easy to ship) Bob's Red Mill makes one. It's a vegetable textured protein that people use a lot as a meat substitute.

Well that's up to you, I jumped right into it and went full out vegan. You could try it out for a day and increasing it from there.
