We will be moving to Anchorage in January and I am wondering what Anchorage has to offer for vegans? Any veg friendly restaurants, stores? Does anyone have suggestions for living in that climate and eating a kind diet?

Thanks!

Hi Alla, I live in Homer, AK which is 4 hours south of Anchorage. I think there are some good options for eating and buying groceries in Anchorage. New Sagayas is one place and they have two locations, the Natural Pantry is another, larger grocery store. I love to eat at the Middleway Cafe which is right next door to REI, they have lots of yummy vegan options including bakery items. Near the Costco is a place called Acai Alaska which has killer smoothies and spinach, quinoa bowls. My biggest hardship being vegan in the cold north is never getting enough avocados! Anywho, I hope you have an easy transition to Anchorage, it will be cold and dark in January but by the end of February you'll be amazed at how late it stays light and it just keeps getting better.

Thank you! This makes me feel much better :) I went online and found the alaskavegsociety group. they have meet ups monthly, which sounds fun. Appreciate the info.
