I have been vegetarian for quite some time, but started eating vegan the beginning of this year. I find that I am really tired and some days, just want to lie down and nap. Is this a detox process? If anyone can shed some light, or let me know I'm normal (:P) that would be great!

Thanks in advance,

Diana

This could absolutely be some detox. But, depending on where you live, it could also be good old winter blues. I'm in Canada, and seasonal affective disorder (SAD) definately gets me from Jan to March. Combination of lack of sunshine, shorter days, and that natural hibernation response to the prolonged cold weather. Exercise helps. But if it doesn't improve, you may want to get your iron checked.

Feel better. Kim.

Diana did your tiredness ease? I'm feeling sleepy most of the day.

It could very well be a detox process or as Kim Suggested, winter blues. If you life in a cold climate consider consuming more mushrooms (Shiitake are great).

I drink coffee in order to not have this problem :)

Make sure your getting enough b12 and iron, whether its from a supplement or not. It helped me a lot!

Just get some simple bloodwork done and look at your red cell count. If it is low, consider iron and B12. Most vegans get plenty of iron because of all the dark green leafies. Everyone is different with their absorbtion and retention of B12. In nature we get it from animals or animal waste (manure in a garden) Some people are helped with sub-lingual supplements. I wasn't. I need IM injections because stress depletes my B12 pretty quickly. This is something I am happy I can do myself, at home once weekly. For me the vegan diet has been so beneficial to my health that I am happy I can just take care of the one area where my nutrition is lacking. Do test your blood and good luck.

Thanks so much everyone!! I do take a B12 supplement and try to eat a nice round diet. I have found that the tiredness has eased and I get extra sleep to nurture myself, when I can anyway. I'm a yoga teacher, so I keep stress at a minimum. I'm feeling really great these days!!
