Writing a letter to my father

My father is an omnivore and has struggled with high blood pressure. In fact, he just had an emergency room experience that was quite alarming, and his doctor responded by putting him on higher doses of blood pressure medication. He has weight around his midsection, which I know is indicative of heart attack risk/heart problems.

I would like to write a letter that will influence him to take charge of his own health, learn the facts and help to heal his body without medication. Aside from Alicia's book, I do not know where to turn for this info. He is from the Midwest, and very much a part of the meat-at-every-meal culture. We love him very much and want to gently help him see this healthy point of view.

If you have any suggestions, especially sound medical facts on blood pressure and a vegan diet, please share!

I would send him a care package with "The China Study", Alicia's book and a couple DVD's like "Fat, sick and nearly dead", "Forks over Knives". In your letter just ask him to take the time and read/watch what you have sent. Tell him that you care for him and if he needs help transitioning to a "healthier" diet you are there for him.

...political affiliations aside, I enjoyed this short article in the Times about bill clinton's vegan journey. I like how it said he was playing russian roulette with his health...

If your dad isn't computer literate, you could always print it out and enclose with the care package.

There is a second link in there to a full article on CNN
