My husbands swears he is allergic to soy in some way. I believe he is just sensitive to it. Some soy products will cause him to have some physical reactions, but nothing life threatening. But he won't touch the stuff. However....he has had some things with it in it...and nothing bothered him so it must be something else in them. I have no clue. He ate one of those sushi rice wraps the other day that are very sweet and he said he felt his lip puffing up. Not sure what he can eat as an alternative while following the kind diet.

Hi Holli,

I came across these sites that may help:

I rarely intake soy since I'm macrobiotic so I rely on seitan and beans for protein, and of course really pile on the veggies and whole grains. Try almond or rice milk instead of soy, and for alternatives Daiya cheese is soy free as well as soy-free vegenaise. I think maybe trying more of the superhero recipes in TKD will help.

The levels or characteristics of soy allergens may vary from product to product due to processing or fermentation, so soy milk might be very different from something like tempeh in its ability to elicit a reaction. He might be allergic, just not across the board. (And like you said, it may be something else.)

Thanks ladies! I actually love the soy free products and we use a lot of it so that's helpful. And come to think of it...soy sauce is in Chinese food and he loves Chinese food so I guess using tamari won't be a problem. Christal I think you're right about it being the way things are processed because I know some pre-boxed sushi you buy has msg in it...could be he's allergic to that too....ugh. Processed YUCK! Thanks for the information Beverly. I'll check it out!
