10 pounds overweight, would veganism help???

Hey there! So I'm 17, and 135 pounds. I'm 5'7"-5'8", and I know I'm at a healthy weight. I do, however, have a paunch, and just enough fat on my legs and rear to make me highly insecure.

I don't necessarily have bad eating habits- in fact, I'm downright 'kind' until afterschool. Then, I have a rather big snack (usually comprised of healthy to moderately unhealthy foods), and then a small dinner a few hours before bed. Also, I have a penchance for sweets (my curse).

My point is, would going vegan, or at least implimenting vegan ways into my diet, help me vanquish those ten pounds? I have been concerned in the past that the chemicals and hormones inadvertently eaten in, persay, school lunches, haven't been auspicious to my health. Thank you for reading, and I hope you guys can shed light on me! :)

P.S. I'm rather inactive in a day, but plan to begin exercising more.

Veganism may help you if you add exercise to your daily routine too. I went vegan two years ago and lost a lot of weight. However, I stopped exercising and gained it all back. I also was eating more of the vegan processed foods. So I cut out all processed foods and now only eat organics and lots of fruits and veggies. It has helped put me back at a healthy weight and has helped tremendously with my energy level. I would suggest going vegan and adding moderate exercise (even just taking a walk everyday) to help shed those extra pounds. Hope this helps!

Cheese is your enemy!!!! I was a vegetarian for about 10 years and as soon as I became vegan and cut out all dairy....cheese was my curse....cut out any processed foods even the vegan kind, cut out all processed sugars....added a lot of green leafy veggies.....I lost 20 pounds....I was aiming to lose ten....but my body decided on 20!!! oh well....anyhoo....yes going vegan can help lose your xtra 10....but only if done properly....good luck and eat your greens!!!!!

Thank you both so much! I still haven't decided on whether or not to go vegan, but I'll most definitely implement vegan foods into my diet. The words of wisdom were greatly appreciated, I'll heed them with care! :)

P.S. Any specific exercises/machines/methods you guys use to work out?

P.P.S. Best vegan brands...?

Hey! I'm in the same boat - hoping to lose the last 10-15 lbs. Although that's not my only reason for adopting a plant-based diet, I DO hope it helps. I've only in my 2nd week of eating this way and I've already lost 4 lbs - so I'm pretty stoked :) I exercise about 5-6x week for 40-60 mins. a day, so I think everything combined is doing the job! Feel free to shoot me a message if you'd like some help with workout suggestions, I'd love to help you out :)

I would immensely encourage a whole-foods plant-based diet if your focus is weight loss. Vegan foods are commonly very processed and not much better than the things they are substituting.

If you go nuts-and-bolts vegan (mostly raw and whole foods) you will notice a substantial difference. I personally don't exercise and I maintain a healthy weight solely from eating moderately well. Some days I pig out on chips and cookies though :P

I lost 10 pounds on my vegan diet, with a lot of working my butt off at the gym. What I love most about my vegan life style is that if I ever want to cheat or give in to non vegan items, I always have my ethical reasons to fall back on to.
