Concern about omega three

I get a lovely newsletter from Dr. Mercola; "Humans evolved with a staple source of the essential omega-3 fat docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in their diets, namely seafood" and then suggests that "it's important to recognize that animal-based omega-3 fat is not interchangeable with plant-based sources of omega-3. And while you do need both in your diet, animal-based omega-3 fats are particularly important for your brain health. he goes on to suggest a source for this in the form of krill oil. (http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/02/06/without-krill-oil-your-brain-could-degenerate.aspx?e_cid=20120206_DNL_art_1)
I have had good success lately with my vegan diet, my weight is slowing coming off, my chest pains have improved and I am basically feeling so much better. I find this discouraging and I am not ready to forfeit my beliefs to eat another entity. Can you guide me in this. Please and many thanks.
What a shame you never got a response. I've just begun a search for information on non-animal omegas.
I wish/hope all is well, Alexz!
Hi Alexz,
If you're looking for a long chain omega 3 (EPA & DHA) you don't need to take a fish oil or krill oil supplement, in fact, we think this is soooo last year. EPA & DHA are the active ingredients only found in oily fish and algae. So you can get long chain Omega 3 fatty acids from algae supplements these days.
These supplements are also vegan so you dont need to compromise your principles.
We think that one day in the not too distant future all long chain Omega 3 will come from algae and not fish.
