Hi!
I currently live in North Carolina while I'm attending graduate school but as long as I can find a job I'm planning to move to the Pittsburgh area in May. Just wanted to start a thread on here for this area to get some ideas about where to eat in Pittsburgh when I get there!
My boyfriend still eats a lot of meat so any restaurant suggestions that can accomodate us both (Indian, Thai, etc..) would be greatly appreciated!

First, may I saw Pittsburgh is a great city. Also it is super easy to be vegetarian and vegan there. There is a huge whole foods in the highland park area, a trader joes and a market district(organic and whole foods store, slightly pricey tho). THere is a also a co-op in the east end called east end co-op. As for restaurants, in the laurcenville/garfield area there is a vegeterian/ vegan shop called quiet storm. In Oakland there is an amazing coffee and tea shop called Kiva Han(locally owned, lots of vegetarian and vegan options including food). Oakland has a ton of indian restaurants(i.e. india star, india graden). If you are lookingi for thai a good place is the green mango located in monroeville and edgewood. There are tons of options also be sure to download the Happy cow app on your phone.
Hi Lauren! I would say that Emma gave some great advice, I live in West Mifflin but travel to Lawrenceville for work and there are lots and lots of vegan friendly restaurants in that area. BrillowBox has some great food and they have a starving artist veggie dinner every Sunday, it's usually vegan but I call ahead just to make sure. You can see their menu on their website. The Oakland area is really great too because it is where several large universities are located so you get all the diversity that comes along with it. Also Squirrel Hill has some vegan places, and a vegan bakery :) Plus there are several Mad Mex restaurants in the Pittsburgh area.
My #1 suggestion for a place that would please you and your boyfriend would be the Church Brew Works. It's an old church that has been converted into a restaurant/brewery (google it to see how awesome it is inside) they have several vegan options, like a delicious quinoa salad, vegan polenta, house made hummus w/ pitas etc... and they have plenty of options for your boyfriend too. It's a great experience.
Thank you both SO much for the feedback and recommendations!! I can't wait to move and try some of those places. I'm also especially excited to be able to shop somewhere like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, neither of those places even exist where I live currently.
Veganlicious, I've actually been to the Church Brew Works before!!! I LOVE that place!! It was a long time ago when I went so I wasn't concerned with eating vegan but the food and atmosphere were incredible, I'm so happy to know that's a place I can still visit! Anyone traveling to Pittsburgh should absolutely check it out!
Thanks again!!
I live in the Pittsburgh area too--live in Murrysville and work in Cranberry. I appreciate reading these suggestions because I have a hard time finding vegan friendly restaurants. I usually end up at Mad Mex or Aladdins. For all the growth in Cranberry, it is amazing that they don't seem to have any natural food stores, like Whole Foods. So I usually take one day every month and fight traffic to go to the east end food coop, which I love, by the way. I never tried Whole Foods, and Trader Joes, while it has a huge selection of prepared foods, has a disappointing produce selection, compared to the east end food coop.
Where is this vegan bakery? I am very interested.
