There seems to be a lot of debate and controversy about whether cacao beans are ultimately more beneficial or detrimental to our overall physical and mental/emotional health and well being.
Any thoughts of your own~?
It may have already been discussed, but I haven't seemed to run across a search feature for the site or forums, thus far. D:
Dr. Neal Barnard (who was Alicia's medical consultant on The Kind Diet), is quoted as saying in a lecture, Breaking the Food Seduction, namely that, "Chocolate, just like sugar, elicits an opiate reaction within the brain that trips the dopamine receptors and gives us a pleasure response...I don't mean to say that chocolate is a drug. What I mean to say is that chocolate is the whole darn drugstore!"
Here is a link with a longer clip from Dr Barnard's book of the same name: http://rawfooddietsecrets.com/blog/19/raw-cacao-chocolate-dangerous/
Hope this helps -- personally, I don't eat any kind of chocolate, cocoa, cacao, etc., but it seems like if you want a little bite once in a while it won't kill you - but it's probably best NOT to think of it as some kind of "superfood" or anything like that.
Good luck,
