Green school supplies?

Hey fellow Kind Lifers!

I've been wondering lately how to be more eco-friendly with school supplies, in particular with ballpoint pens. I know there are refillable pens, but the refills are also made of plastic, so does anyone know if there is any way to avoid using so much plastic in terms of pens?
