I am 42 and live on a disability budget monthly. I have an autoimmune disease called behcets which affects not only my joints and muscles but causes inflammation in my blood vessels as well. What are some great natural things I can try to get the pain from this under control I also have low immunity to infections and things as well? Any help would be greatly appreciated as the doctors just keep pushing more medicine on me that make me feel ten time worse.

Welcome, Jennifer! Most people (esp. those of us of advanced age, lol) find that a true vegan diet does wonders for reducing or eliminating various auto-immune reactions as well as inflammations. I found that even the osteo-arthritis I have from joint injuries has been greatly improved by going vegan.

I would also think (and I am not a doctor so this is not advice) that focusing on getting as much of your diet organic as possible would be an immediate goal. You might also want to read The Kind Diet and gear yourself toward the Superhero (macrobiotic) diet as much as possible.

On a side note, I am a HUGE fan of Korean dramas and one of the best and best-known is called Jewel in the Palace, about ancient Korea's first female royal physician, Jang Geum, also known as The Great Jang Geum. She starts out as a cook in the royal kitchens, and it is her ability to diagnose and treat, mostly with food and accupuncture, that save the king's life. So he goes against tradition and appoints her his physician. Many modern doctors think the King was suffering from Behcet's disease, which is how I first heard of the condition. Ancient Korean medicine (which persists to this day in Koreans' amazing food, btw) was centered on using diet to treat disorders and keep people balanced.

Hope that's helpful. I wish you joy and good health on your journey!

I am in the process of being diagnosed with autoimmune disease,im only 22 though, I have really sore joints and clicking everywhere and don't know whats been causing it, along with very severe exzema and health problems caused by unknown reasons. if going back to vegan would help with this...that would do it for me, that is more than enough proof to show that animal products are harmful. i know this is an old post but i searched the forum for autoimmune to see if anyone had a similar problem. hanks for the info, Im going to look further into this.
