I would probabbly not feed my children like a bird. I am just wondering how she feels after posting something so personal and having all these negative reviews. I am quite sure she came from a good place when she opened up to others about such an intimate family moment. Despite the fact I do not agree with the method, I do know this is an old practice in other cultures. I don't think we should be as judgmental and mean in our comments.
Is anyone else curious as to why the title of this discussion has quotations around the word feeding? Are they suggesting that she is not really feeding him? I only ask because, whether you agree with her method or not, she is feeding him. It just seemed odd and a bit ridiculous.
To everyone that believes viewers of Alicia's video should keep their opinions to themselves. Alicia should have blocked comments! Alicia left herself open to opinion, and criticism. A child sheds their mothers immunity and begin to develop their own at about the age of six months. How does her continuously chewing and spitting food into this baby's mouth benefit him? He's human not a wild animal. It's nasty! Yes, I have picked up my children's pacifier (daughter, son refused pacifiers) and sucked it if it fell on the floor in the house, threw it away if in the street or elsewhere, that's a mothers instinct. A person can contract a bacteria that can cause heart problems from their toothbrush. Why take a chance. I would like to know at what age will she decide to stop this nasty practice? It would blow my mind to learn that she also breast feeds. He needs to enjoy the flavors and consistencies of different foods on his own, by the time he gets it second mouthed from her the thrill is gone. She needs to blend his food and let him make his own mess and enjoy his food on his own. This is a nasty, and disgusting practice.
@eat vegan, FYI...Whatever the child's age he is able to chew his own food. So what If she's vegan!? Do vegans do it better? He is able to chew his own food, the baby should be able to enjoy the various flavors of his veggie burgers, sprouts and all the other grasses vegans eat. Alicia allowed everyone into her life when she posted the video that also made it to television. I think it's a nasty way of feeding her baby. What I think does matter, because she left herself open for it. I also would like to know does she chew his food, and spit it into little bowls when he is left with his grandparents, nanny, whomever for lunch, snacks and supper? Is the nanny allowed to chew and spit his food for him also? Yeah! This is a great way to feed your child. It's nasty and so is she for doing it? This is a moment she could have kept to herself.
All I can say here is just when I begin to get someone on board with even thinking about simply not eating meat, here goes Alicia being so bizarre I can't blame them for losing any credibility in her they might have had. I still adore her book and a lot of the info she provides, but I won't even try to win this discussion w/ my hubby or anyone I may have influenced to be kinder. You really alienated me here, seems like a stunt that's backfiring...not going to attract any non kind lifers here Alicia-yikes!
I think that we have better things to worry about. Where most celebrities hand their child to the nanny, she seems to be very involved in his life and his caretaking. I used to chew food and put it on a spoon for my son when he was that age (he is now about 2 1/2 years old) and he is fine. Obviously a bad idea if you have dental caries or other bacterial concerns, but with how healthy Alicia is, I'm sure it isn't that huge of an issue.
Some of the people on this posting board certainly are rude and judgemental. Maybe we should save our judgement for those parents that neglect their children instead.

All of your other ranting aside, what exactly did you mean when you said "It would blow my mind to learn that she also breast feeds"? Were you suggesting that:
A) you think that, because she does this, she does not breastfeed (which she does, by the way)?
B) you believe that breastfeeding is wrong?
C) you believe that breastfeeding an eleven month old child is wrong?
@ Sara Klopp, There was no ranting just stating my views on this disgusting act. I honestly couldn't care less. BUT! To answer your questions, the answer is C. I do believe an eleven month old should be of the breast as well as off the bottle.

The American Pediactrics Association recomends that children be breastfed at LEAST for one year, and that two years is even better.
