Baby girl growing hair 'down there'.

I have noticed my baby girl (8 months) having a small amount of hair in her pubic area lately. She's my third child and I have been consuming soymilk everyday for the last few years in my cereal and coffee, but I don't think I overdo it. My two older children never had this problem, but I didn't use much soy during my pregnancies for them. I am paranoid that she has this issue because of the soy estrogen mimicing the real stuff. Also, worried that there might be more happening with her health and this is just a side effect. She is a very healthy and happy baby, otherwise. Anyone have any insight? Thanks!!!

My first advice would be to go see a professional -- I'm hoping you have or can find a pediatrician who is knowledgeable and hip to these issues and with whom you can discuss such things.

The second thing would be if your baby isn't currently consuming any soy, and isn't breastfeeding, and you didn't overdo it during pregnancy (like drink a quart a day every day and eat a lot of tofu, etc...) then it doesn't seem like it would be related.

I've seen some more sane voices on this issue of soy and hormones say the panic has been overhyped. The hormones in cow's milk and meats are far more likely to be causing us problems than some soymilk.

Should have mentioned I'm still nursing... Probably consumed 2-3 cups of soymilk a day for the past 5 years? I don't have a pediatrician I trust that is knowledgable with vegan/vegetarian nutrition, but am interviewing some now. She has her 9 month appt in a few weeks. Thanks!

sometimes babies can have breast tissue due to moms hormones in breast milk. Hopefully that is all it is in this case too. maybe bring it up to your pediatrician next visit.
