This is day 1 for me..HELP! I am really hoping the tansition isn't too hard on me while I adjust...I love Vegan foods....I am not looking forward to the "detox" part. I am hoping to find some advice on how to make the transition easier....Been drinking herbal teas all morning..will go in the sauna later. etc., Any advice much appreciated!

Hi Caroline,

My husband and I just watched Forks Over Knives and have decided to make the switch to Vegan foods. Our current eating habits are terrible and are just today starting to make the change. What is this about "detox" and drinking herbal tea and the sauna you posted about? Is that something that everyone needs to do when making the change? Any additional information you have would be greatly appreciated

Hi Caroline, congratulations on making the switch. You are doing yourself and your body a great justice by making the decision to go vegan! As you begin paying more attention to what you put in your body, the benefits will speak for themselves. You have much to look forward to! (:

Having been vegetarian, then vegan, then vegetarian, and back again, I can tell you that eliminating dairy (specifically cheese) was the hardest, yet most beneficial part about going vegan for me. When I would go a week without eating cheese and then eat it again, I would feel clogged up and sick the next day. My best advice as far as that goes is if you DO have a slip-up, which most all of us do!!... is to really pay attention to how it makes you feel directly after; even the next day. That should give you some good motivation to continue on your vegan path.

If you get stuck and have specific questions as far as cravings, what to eat, when to eat, etc., The Kind Life has a great community of supporters that are here to answer any of your questions. If you'd like to see other posts and answers from other people who have made the transition, I would recommend using google and entering "the kind life" "new vegan" into the search field (the quotes are important as they ensure that those exact phrases will be on the page results). I just did that and here are the results that came up here.

So I hope that helps, come back with more specific questions anytime! And make sure to use google or check out the forums to see if others have already asked similar questions (;

Good luck and happy eating!

Renee, I have been detoxing on and off for years. It's really up to you what method you choose. But often times when people make the switch they experience some detox symptoms. I was just trying to make the transition smoother. So far I feel pretty good! I drank a lot of Green Tea, Rooibus Tea, White Tea throughout the day. I also drank some coconut water and made a fruit smoothie of 1/2 C. Organic Froz Strawberries, 1/2 Cup Frozen Organic blueberries, Cup pf Organic rice milk and Tablespoon of raw honey, Normally add flax seed but was out of it!...omitted the Greek Yogurt I used to have with it and I thought it tasted wonderful, I barely noticed the difference. The Sauna I use is homemade www.SkinSecretsRevealed.Wordpress.com. It's a great way to speed up sweating out the toxins, but drink a lot of water before and after. This has really gone pretty smooth so far on day 2! Thank you for the comments and suggestions everyone...I am excited about making this a permanent lifestyle choice!
