Hi everyone!!

So im new to this forum, Have been vegetarian for about a year and a half and vegan for about 5 weeks. At the start I found it so easy but the last few days im struggling....Its not that I want to eat anything non-veagn (apart from cakes...ugh!!) but im just finding Cork City a difficult place to be vegan.

Anyone else from Cork here that might be able to give me a few tips?? Would be very much appreciated ;) I guess I'v been really busy with a lot of eating out so that's kinda ruined my routine and I'm finding it difficult to get back into it.

I personally have found it easier to go vegan than to give up sugar and caffeine, I'm still working on both (down to one cup of tea a day no coffee!!) oh and trying to go organic too which is so expensive and I'm still in college. Trying to find vegan products etc is another tough one, being in college still I can't afford to replace everything I own even though I never wore leather etc but wow is it crazy once you start researching at just what the put in to everything we buy???!!

Oh and one last thing could anyone from Ireland/Cork tell me where to find umeboshi plums?? Are they called something different over here? The language difference is another issue....google is amazing!! ;)

Anywho Thanks to anyone that can help and that took the time to read my rant!!

I truly appreciate it! Lyn :)

Hi Lyn

Good to meet you. And well done on getting the tea and coffee down to one cup per day. I'm still working on that too. :-)

I can recommend a cake recipe for a chocolate cake if you're struggling. If you google 'vegan birthday cake' you'll find a site titled 'the best chocolate cake ever that happens to be vegan'. I tried it and it was amazing. It lasted about ten minutes in my house so I made another one immediately. Brilliant.

I've also just discovered smoked tofu, stir fried with toasted pumpkin seeds. Very, very yummy served with brown rice and any veggies you like.

Best of luck. Sounds like you're doing great. See you around.

Hi Val!

Thanks for your response!

Oooh gotta say Im looking forward to trying that cake!! :) Thanks for all the tips!

What I did with the tea and coffee was gradually cut out a cup a day and after a few cut out another....I just can't seem to let go all together but hopefully soon! ;)

I have to say I tried the smoked tofu and unfortunately it wasn't for me but thanks! I have taken to cooking brown rice and lentils together to get protein that way and its actually very yummy.....so handy too just boil a big pot and they last a few days then add loads of veggies maybe some beans whatever you like really. Its great when your in a rush too. :)

Good luck with everything and don't worry about the caffeine you'll get there! Try rooibus/redbush tea tastes exactly the same and is lovely :)

Lyn. x :)

I usually go to the Quay Coop if i'm looking for something specific. If I can't find things there I usually decide that I probably won't find them in Cork :) Google is my best friend - I'm always having to look for simpler alternate ingredients etc.

Hi Lyn,

Have you tried www.organicsupermarket.ie for the umeboshi plums? I can buy them here in Dublin but these guys deliver anywhere in Ireland, they're kind of pricey but the jar lasts months! :-)
