Why not soy yogurt or miso? or even probiotic pills? There are so many other great ways to get probiotics into your body without all the ickiness of dairy... maybe they are just not as well-known to your practitioner? I had some dairy after about a month of being off it, and it was horrible! my stomach hurt and i felt bad for hours afterward.

I suggested probiotic pills, but he said the benefits of calcium and what not in the yogurt outweighed any pills --- And soy isn't my friend! Miso is occasionally quite nice to me but sometimes not so much! I am definitely off the meat and egg train and have no milk or cheese in my diet, I was just wondering what it was about the dairy that made it so terrible!? I need some reminding please friends!! :)

Can you drink kombucha for the probiotics and eat lots of kale for the calcum? (I've heard that the calcium from greens is better for the body and easier to absorb than dairy anyway. ) But I think that we all do what we must, and can only do as much as we can... and we forgive you if you must... enjoy it and be thankful to the cows!

Hello Lauren and other kind lifers' - Yogurt, like other animal proteins is quite acidic once digested and actually robs the bones/teeth of minerals as the blood tries to retain a more alkaline ph. Yogurt is quite costly too, and I would prefer to use my income/dollars to buy plant foods which have phytochemicals and antioxidants in them, much better for our health and preventing disease. Dairy foods lack fibre, which most of us need more of. Most commerical dairy still has lactose in them, as they have not been fermented for long enough, lactose and other dairy sugars are harmful to health and mentioned in research for ovarian cancer and other cancers. Excess sugar in the body also allows viruses incl the common cold and flu to take hold, viruses love sugar and the mucous and gluggy deposits produced by most dairy products. Tahini, whole sesame seeds, almonds and other plant foods contain enough minerals, with added benefit of fibre and protein which is not as acidic in the body. As other people have said, green leafy veggies have calcium. A google search will tell you which plant foods have calcium and other needed minerals. Dairy yoghurt comes from cow's milk, "cow's milk is produced & designed for their own young ie baby calves", not us humans who rob it from baby cows, and allow many of these calves to be killed soon after birth as their mothers' milk is taken for humans (see www.animalsaustralia.org.au) for more info. A more superhero or macrobiotic dietary approach will not necessite probiotics anyway, as it is a well designed diet which allows the body to remain mostly alkaline, macro people use miso, tamari sauce, home prepared pickles ie ginger or daikon, saurkraut to keep digestive systems functioning well, plus chewing food slowly and well, especially the grains. Best regards, from Amanda
