Hey everyone so I'm a 19 year old college student and I'm new to this whole being a vegetarian thing. I have been vegetarian for the past three weeks now but I just found out that alot of the foods I have been eating have hidden animal products and such in them and its been irritating the hell out of me because when I go to the store I have no clue what to buy anymore such as (cheese, bread, crackers, desserts). I'm not a vegan just vegetarian and alot of people have been telling me who cares if some animal products are in some foods like rennet in chesse but its just really has been bothering me.

I eat lots of frozen dinners like Lean Cuisines and Smart Ones and frozen pizza because I never really have time to make homemade dinners

So if some of you could tell me some BASIC foods like bread, cheese, desserts, gum that dont have animal fats and all that other crap in them I would really appreciate it meaning I spend about more then an hour in the grocery store a week. thanks

It can be challenge to examine every label. Animal ingredients are hidden in so many products. For example, we found milk listed on the back of a can of honey roasted peanuts! Why??

Breads: check the labels for lactose or enzymes (both animal products). If you see natural enzymes, they are not from animals. I learned this by calling a food store's 800 number to check.

Vegan cheeses: Vegan Gourmet comes in a block that you can shred or slice.

Daiya cheese: is awesome!! And what we use on our homemade pizza every Wednesday!

*Some 'veggie' cheese has casein, which is an animal product. It sounds like you want to avoid this.

Desserts: homemade are the best but Dr Oetker's Organic butterscotch pudding is quick and easy and very good. Alicia's raw balls are delicious!

We chew Spry gum and Glee gum, but can only find it at Whole Foods and online. No gelatin, no aspartame.

If you are looking for convenience, try Amy's Brand or Evol in frozen. Not all itmes are vegetarian but there are some.

Good luck! :)
