Sticky Brown Rice Syrup

Ok, what's the trick? I really like brown rice syrup, but every time I buy it, after the first time I use it, it almost seems like an olympic (or at least a strongman) event to get the lid back off... is there a trick or do I need to wipe it down every time I use it?
I run the lid under hot tap water for a few seconds and then it usually comes right off. Sometimes I have to tap it on the counter a few times too.
