Hey Jen!

I have been trying to cook more recently but i'm a student and sometimes its hard to find the time. What are some of your favourite recipes?I know I have to start eating a little healthier. I think I eat too many carbs and processed foods because they are the easiest to prepare.

Peta has some great recipes you should try their site too. I love the tofu egg salad sandwich that is on this site ...nothing you want to eat all the time but a great treat! Even though it's summer, I'm a big soup girl and have been making lots to fill up on when I'm running low on time. One of the biggest challanges I've had to tackle is the same as you, busy and carbs and processed foods were the easiest to prepare.

You really don't need to buy any books- goggle and you'll find TONS!!

Sounds great. I'll start looking at different sites for recipes :)

I found out that there is a Vegetarian Food Festival in Toronto in September so I think i'm gonna check that out. Could be interesting.

I'm not vegan anymore.I wasn't getting any protein for many years,I'm a very active yogi and runner, was so out of balance.A fellow yoga teacher told me to consider eating some meat or fish,I went and got wild salmon...my body has never felt better than when I had salmon the first few days.It gives me more muscle mass, essential vitamins, minerals, oils and fats,I have much energy and stamina while running, more clear headed..I could go on and on about the benefits of consuming fish.I am not willing to consume meat, haven't had that in 25 years, but I had to make a significant choice in my health. All the carbohydrates from the grains and beans I was eating my body could not convert, and I would crash a few hours after even having VEGA protein powder, the same thing with beans for lunch and dinner. That never has happened to me since I have been eating salmon.
Candida is a serious health concern, and I refuse to neglect my body.A lot of vegans have been critical of me,but I truly listen to my body. All I hope is that more Candidans become aware of their long term health. For many, veganism is the cure, but it really damaged my health.
I just had half an avocado yesterday for the first time in about two months,it was so exciting! I made guacamole with lemon juice, spicy Thai basil, raw garlic, freshly ground pepper and Himalayan pink salt, ate it with zucchini chips. My body is thanking me for it today!

Another from Vancouver is working on making the change from vegetarianism to veganism. So much research to do!

Hey, I'm in Ontario I went plant based April 2011, after 2 weeks I realized I should have done it many years before I feel so much better. Was throwing the idea around for a while then I saw Alicia's book in my local book shop and gave it a try. It was a little confusing at first. Then I started buying vegan cookbooks and following the recipes in them. It doesn't get much esier than that. Alicia's book is great, Brendan Brazier "The thrive diet" and "whole foods to thrive" are great as well. I would visit your local book shop and see what they have flip through them and cook away. Great recipes on this site also and they are free.

Hey Kristina, I have looked through a vegan student recipe book. I don't recall the name of it though, but it is out there.

Heya!

I'm Canadian too. I live in St. John's, NL. I've been vegetarian for almost a year and almost vegan. I'm vegan mostly when I prepare my own meals. When I go out I find it harder....but it will come! :D
